this summer

the weather.....the garden......year of the cardinal....return of the butterfly.....acknowledgement of the ciceda....year of improvement

wrapping up summer

how did summer go and where are we headed now august is here and i can start making better preparations for a fall garden. summer wasnt a failure, but it was poorly planned and more of an experiment. this fall will be a different story.

i browsed different seed companies and types of seeds. questioning wether to use organic seed or hybrids or heirlooms. scanning for the best reviewed varieties of each fall vegetable. what i ended up doing was going to home depot and getting a variety of it all. also i purchased a hand tiller to work up the soil a bit. i wonder how this tool will work in this black clay caliche soil. i do not know what yet i will add to the soil if anything. i will be constructing a compost pile of some sort so i can recycle that way as well.

planning a fall garden

first post about fall garden

i found several winter squash i want to try. 3 different pumpkins, acorn squash, waltham butternut and golden hubbard. i will be saving some of these seeds for the spring garden. i have golden and detroit dark red beets, i'm very excited about them for some reason. carrot and radish, leeks and green onion, this is going to be fun.
